Ban Bossy

Words matter. When a little boy asserts himself, he's called a "leader." Yet when a little girl does the same, she risks being branded "bossy." Words like bossy send a message: don't speak up or take the lead. By middle school, girls are less interested in leading than boys—a trend that continues into adulthood.

Join us in the Girl Scouts new campaign to Ban Bossy.
Encourage girls to lead.

Campaign Goals

Encourage female leadership by:

  • Raising awareness of how we inadvertently hold girls back
  • Providing practical tips for girls, troop leaders and parents
  • Driving a national conversation about girls’ leadership
